TV programme about 100 years of Scouts
« Thread started on: Jan 2nd, 2007, 3:35pm »

I have just watched the show with Niel Morrissey and other celebrities talking about their memories of Guiding and Scouting.
My husband (an ex-scout and leader) and I watched with cries of 'Have you EVER heard a Scout say Dib Dib Dib?!!' and others, as the comedy sketches got uniforms wrong etc etc.
What did everyone think? I wonder why none of the people on the show were involved past 1975?
Everyone's memories were happy though. Not one person said they hadn't enjoyed it.

The title was misleading. I did not expect to see so many references to Guiding from the title.

I did not like his closing remarks though.

It wasn't nearly as good as it could have been, but then again it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. It was interesting to hear about how it used to be, but such a missed opportunity to promote Scouts and Guides today. It gave the impression that all scouts do is sleep in tents and cook without saucepans and all leaders are nerds. And what 10 year old would want to be like any of the celebrities interviewed with the possible exception of David Grant. (And isn't Peter Duncan still Chief Scout or something - where was he?).
Did Girl Guiding UK, or Scouts (whatever their proper title is) have any say in the production of the programme?

I watched it too, I was very interested about the Brownie PR badge they were mentioning did anyone pick up on that? I have taped it so I might re watch it to check if I understood it correctly because I don't know of any Brownie PR badge!
Peter Duncan is still chief scout, I happened to be on the scout website and notice the other day. Its a shame they didn't involve him, perhaps he had other commitments or didn't want to be involved.
It was a shame that many of the people were only involved in Scouting/Guiding for 2 or 3 years... Although Helen Fielding was speaking about her Queen's Guide.

Still the programmee was good fun, had "that Blue Peter clip in it" (the one where they are singing if you're happy and you know it and the fire gets out of control), and the whole programme lead to a bit of friendly banter in our house about who tied the best knots. (obv the 2 members of girlguiding uk!)

I loved the fact that the most recent uniform change they showed for the guides was the one in 1990 thet was 17 years ago when I was 11!!!

they had them all at the fire in their current uniform thoughh!

I picked up on the PR badge and uniform changes too.

I think they could have made it a bit more positive
